Ivy announces telecommunications changes
Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri's announcement is online. Bretton has converted it to HTML format.
The short of it is that on the Telkom has lost their monopoly on voice communications in South Africa, effective 1 February 2005. I would have liked to have seen this occuring sooner, and the unbundling of the local loop would have also been another step in the right direction.
“Because of technological developments, there is no longer any difference in the transmission of voice, video and data, therefore it is no longer necessary to prohibit the provision of voice by VANS,” says Matsepe-Casaburri.
